New Horizon Support Group for People with Developmental Disabilities

Group Meeting Details: 

  • 3rd Wednesday of each month, 11:00-1:00pm, The Executive Center, 5118 N. 50th Street, Tampa, FL  33610

  • Fair Day, October 17th at the Academy on Hillisborough and 40th Street, 10 am to 2 pm

Major Projects/Interests of the Group:

  • Transportation
  • Mentoring Program

Member Activities:

  • Annual Picnic
  • Disability Day at Mosi’s
  • Attended the 2009 Family Café
  • All members are higly connected and involved both individually and as a group.
    • Arizona is well-known in the disability community as well as the greater Tampa community and serves on the board of some community businesses and organizations. He is involved in a mentoring/awareness program for young children and works with University of South Florida medical program teaching third year interns about working with people with disabilities. In October Arizona was interviewed to become a FDDC member.
    • Group member Natalie is a reading tutor and is advocating with officials in her community to add more road signs in her neighborhood that indicate "Share The Road with People Using Wheelchairs" to promote road safety. She likes to write and had her personal story published in an organization's newsletter.
    • Hayward works with kids in a daycare setting to promote awareness of people with disabilities.
