CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Mind opening discussions. Debating the world. Freedom to take risks to
learn. Thinking deeply about new ideas.
This is happening at Syracuse University—do you want to be a part of it?
The Professional Development Programs of the Graduate School in association with the Beyond Compliance Coordinating Committee are accepting abstracts from students faculty and staff, for a book on Disability Pedagogy in Higher Education. The audience of the book is teaching assistants and faculty. The goal is to present ideas, both theoretical and practical, for including students with disabilities in the classroom and the disability perspective in the curriculum. Writers from all disciplines, particularly
fields that do not typically address disability issues, are invited to participate.
Possible topics include:
- How and why to include disability in the curriculum
- Representations of disability in popular culture
- Resources for teaching disability
- Representations of disability in classroom materials
- Personal narratives regarding experiences with disability at the university
- How does disability intersect with other forms of identity? Comparisons with
sexual orientation, race, gender, class, ethnicity, religion, etc.
- Disability as a form of diversity in the university
- Universal Instructional Design—-how to create a classroom environment and curriculum that is accessible to all students
- Utilization of student support services
- What is Disability Studies?
Additional abstracts, on related topics, are also welcome.
